When uploading products to the Wish platform, merchants indicate their product and shipping prices. The prices shown to Wish customers, on the other hand, historically have been based on our dynamic pricing markups.
In 2022, Wish has taken key steps towards bolstering both merchant and user experience, as well as solidifying long-term merchant and user trust. One of the strategies we have been actively evaluating is dynamic pricing markups (total price increase). Given the progress of Wish’s strategic initiatives such as Wish Standards, we have reached a point where price markups are no longer productive for certain segments of our ecosystem. With merchants and users in mind, we carefully evaluated user-facing total price increases and determined that it is ripe for an overhaul.
Below are the details of the revamp as of April 2022 (subject to continuous updates):
- Currently and going forward, all Platinum merchants globally and Gold merchants selling to Europe-based* customers no longer see user-facing total price increases as a result of dynamic pricing**.
- Starting in several months, all merchants selling to Europe-based* customers will no longer see user-facing total price increases.
* Note: Europe-based customers are defined as customers located in the following countries/regions:
European Union, Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom
** VAT, a consumption tax levied on all goods sold in/to the European Union, will still be added to the merchant-set pricing, where applicable and required by law. So the total prices that customers see may still be higher than merchant-set ones, not because of dynamic pricing but because of VAT inclusion.
As we continue to improve our marketplace throughout 2022 and beyond, we will explore expanding this decision to more destinations and merchants. We will keep this Help Center article updated accordingly, so please check back regularly for the latest information. We also aim to become a more competitive and sustainable marketplace for merchants and unlock even more value for customers. Therefore, affected merchants may see a direct increase in sales in the short term. In the long term, more attractive prices from merchants will help amplify user confidence, propel user growth and retention, and foster a more active Wish ecosystem.
Our merchants are our partners. As we look to strengthen that partnership through these recent efforts, we welcome merchant feedback to help us grow and continue to be their trusted marketplace.
