Whether or not your store operates in the U.S., it is required that you complete the tax identification form for the United States (U.S.) Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Compliance with this requirement is critical to ensure your store is properly set up to ship/sell to the U.S., adheres to tax laws, and maintains a secure, truthful marketplace.
Merchants who do not provide applicable tax identification information may have payments withheld.
Submit Your Tax Form
To make this easy for you, we have a quick intake process available on the Merchant Dashboard.
Log in to the Merchant Dashboard (https://merchant.wish.com/md/home), and under “Things to do,” click on “Add tax info.” From here, simply follow the steps to download, complete, and submit the form.
Note that tax identification information requirements are based on merchants' entity type and country/region of domicile (i.e., the country or state of incorporation for the registered company owning and operating your Wish store). For this reason, the IRS has different tax identification forms; however, the Merchant Dashboard conveniently connects you to the one appropriate IRS tax identity form for your store, which is one of these three:
- U.S. domiciled merchants considered to be business entities or individuals must provide a completed Form W-9
- Non-U.S. domiciled merchants considered to be business entities must provide a completed Form W-8BEN-E
- Non-U.S. domiciled merchants considered to be individuals must provide a completed Form W-8BEN
Note that provided tax forms must be signed with a date from within the last 12 months.
After Submitting Your Tax Form
Wish will review the document to confirm your identification and check that the form is complete.
You can check the status of your submission by going to your Seller Profile page (Merchant Dashboard > Settings > Account > Seller Profile) and looking at the “Tax validation status.” Immediately after submitting your form the status should read as “Pending Wish Review.”
Other statuses you may see during the process include:
- Pending Wish Review — Merchant is waiting for Wish to Approve or Reject
- Incomplete — Merchant has started interacting with the flow but has not submitted (i.e., save for later)
- Needs Attention — Merchant needs to fix an issue with an already submitted application
- Approved — Wish has confirmed the merchant's identity and they are able to sell
