What materials do I need to create a brand authorization?

If you are legally authorized to sell a product it is your responsibility to provide sufficient proof of authorization. There are three methods of authorization:

1. You are the owner of the intellectual property (Trademark, patent, or copyright).
2. You have official permission from the intellectual property owner.
3. You have a partnership with a supplier to distribute the branded products and your supplier has permission from the intellectual property owner to resell.

If none of the above situation applies to you, you do not have authorization to sell the product.

1. Materials needed to provide proof if you are the intellectual property owner. 

It is the store's responsibility to prove they are the intellectual property owner. They must supply:

• Image of Trademark, patent, copyright
• The name and entity listed on the document must match the store information
• Valid proof that you are the entity listed on the document

2. Materials needed to provide proof you have authorization to sell from the intellectual property owner.

It is the store's responsibility to prove that the intellectual property owner has authorized them to sell their merchandise. They must supply

• Trademark, patent, copyright
• Image of the intellectual property document
• Letter of authorization to sell 
• Contact information of the intellectual property owner

The letter of authorization must be on the company letter head of the intellectual property owner. The contact information of the person providing the authorization must match the person who signed the authorization letter.

3. You have a partnership with a supplier to distribute the branded products and your supplier has permission from the intellectual property owner.

It is the store's responsibility to provide sufficient proof of authorization. They must supply:

• Trademark, patent, copyright
• Image of the intellectual property document
• Proof that your supplier has authorization to resell
• Proof of partnership with your supplier
• Contact information of your business representative for your supplier
  
  

To show proof that your supplier has authorization to resell, you could supply either:

• a letter of authorization to resell from the intellectual property owner to your supplier, or
• a letter from your supplier confirming they have authorization to resell from the intellectual property owner
  
  

To show proof of partnership with your supplier, you could supply either:

• a letter from your supplier confirming you and your supplier have a partnership to resell products for this brand
• a recent invoice showing purchase of products of this brand from your supplier
